However, there is a critical difference between the two. Goals are generally high-level statements indicating advancing in a general, long-term direction. For instance, a goal would be to “grow revenue”, “increase profitability“ or “make our (product x) a category leader.” Objectives are goals that become SMART. That is, the goal becomes specific, measurable, attainable relevant and timebound. For instance, an objective would be to “make our (product x) the category leader in sales revenue by end of our next fiscal year.”
